Thank you for your kind words, your positive thoughts and your

Personal Background for Marty
Marty Hauck had taught and coached at Fallbrook since 1979. A
partial testament to the effect he had on all that he came in contact
with is contained in the quotes that follow from those who ran
for him, against his squads, and the coaches he competed against.
A graduate of Mar Vista HS in Imperial Beach, Marty had the school
880 record there at 1:56, and attended Fresno and San Diego State
Universities, graduating from the latter. He taught for two years
at Brawley HS before coming to Fallbrook in 1979. He is survived
by his wife, Kathi, who is an administrator at Fallbrook, his brother
Tim, who came to Fallbrook the same year as Marty, 1979, and has
coached with him for the last twenty years, and a sister Stacey.
Marty and Kathi had seven children.
As we are fortunate enough to follow sports through the decades
we are always impressed by those coaches who bring quality individuals
and teams in constant waves. The “people” skills that
someone such as Marty and these coaches have continues to amaze,
as kids, education, the sports, and our culture all are anything
but static. The process of assessing the current crop, making some
judgments, and gently re-steering the ship on the path to success
again and again in slightly different ways shows the great personal
depth and patient persevering quality of someone such as Marty
Hauck. In these times of little patience and the inclination of
most to throw up one’s hands and walk away after a short
tenure we worry that we are running out of people such as Marty.
However, it does seem that he has succeeded in inspiring many from
the quotes of those involved with him that are below, and gain
some solace in the sense that he has passed on his message well.
Testimonials

On behalf of Marty Hauck's family
by Tim Hauck
On behalf of the Hauck family I want to thank all of you for your
kind words of support. I had the privilege of being Marty's brother
and friend for all of my 51 years. We taught together at Fallbrook
High for 29 years and I coached with him for 20 of his 25 years
here. There is a hole in my heart and my life that will never be
filled. During his years as a teacher and coach he positively influenced
thousands of students and athletes. He was the most positive and
optimistic man I've ever met. If you have good memories of him,
hold them in your hearts or share them with your friends.
There will be a memorial to celebrate his life within the next
few weeks and we will try to keep everyone posted. We don't need
flowers, but if you are in the mind to send flowers, send them
to someone you love in his memory. Tell your mom or dad or brother
or sister how much you love them. Tell your coach and your teachers
how much you appreciate them.
Coach Marty Hauck

I didn't sleep much last night, I was very depressed and still
shocked at the realization that I would never talk to Marty Hauck
again. Marty was a professional in this lifestyle we have as a
job, and you always knew to be ready when you met his teams. They
came to compete. It was fun to coach against a man like that, and
over the 18+ years that I knew him, I learned to enjoy, like, and
above all respect him. His word was always good, you could trust
him.
He has left us as persons who are better for knowing him. As a
coach, we are a better sport for his being involved. Marty Hauck,
good husband, father, person and coach, left us all better as a
result of his time with us. May he rest in peace and contentment.
We will miss him for what he was and the good that he brought out
in us.

My deepest sympathies go out to the Hauck family, Fallbrook Cross
Country and Track & Field, and all of the people who have been
fortunate enough to be part of Coach Hauck's life. As a rival coach,
I have always had the utmost respect for Coach Hauck, his coaching
staff, and teams. Unfortunately reading about this tragic event
this morning reminded me just how precious life is.
Coach Marty

From my freshman year I loved competing against Fallbrook for various
reasons, one of those being the coaches. I have always thought
of them as an amazing group of guys with tons of heart. Coach Marty
was one that would always come talk to me, and would sincerely
care what I had to say ha-ha. Last Saturday night I saw him before
the sweepstakes race at Woodbridge, and of course was compelled
to say hi. He helped create an amazing program, one with athletes
that don't only see others as competitors, but friends as well.
Good luck to the Fallbrook team, make this one legendary in honor
of your amazing teacher, coach, and mentor.
The loss of a loved one MARRY HAUCK
by Jimmy Ungricht
I wanted to express my thanks to the service he gave during
his life. He was not only a great coach, but a great mentor and
friend.
He had a very long career at Fallbrook as both a Track and Cross
Country Coach and as an English Teacher.
He was always positive
and encouraging - especially to the newer and less talented kids.
He will be missed by family and loved ones.
May his soul find rest and peace in the next life.

Thanks for the memories, Coach Marty

I met Marty before I even started to think about running. He was
such a great guy and even better coach. He didn't force you to
become better; he made you want to become better. His ability to
rattle off every runner's time on the team was a testament to how
much his athletes meant to him. He is the reason I want to return
to the track someday and coach. Make the kids want to run the "Revenge
of the Hamburger Man" or the "Miracle 2-mile". Gosh,
those were great times. My prayers go out to the Hauck family,
all the faculty at FUHS, and especially his students. There is
no way to measure the impact he made on the thousands of runners
he coached. Thanks for the memories, Coach Marty

As the Vista High School Coach I always enjoyed having my teams
compete against Marty's teams. You always knew that your team would
have to be at their best against a Marty Hauk coached team.
More than anything I liked Marty's honesty and his professionalism.
He really touched a lot of young lives and will be truly missed.
To his family I wish my extend my condolences.
I just can't find the words...
by Matthew Shaughnessy
Coach M gave me advice, even though I wasn't apart of his team.
He made time to have a chat, and would wish me luck in my races.
I will always remember him for that kindness, and what he gave
to so many fine runners at Fallbrook HS. My deepest Condolences
to the Fallbrook athletes.
Terrible Loss to the SD running community
by AJ Acosta
This is a terrible terrible loss to the San Diego Running
Community.
Everyone always had to be on their "A" game
when racing against Fallbrook. Always well prepared. Coach Hauck
will definitely
be missed by everyone he touched. A great loss not only to the
coaching and running world, but also to everyone that ever knew
this great man.
So Sorry
by Coach Flores
This is a very sad day. I am still in shock while reading
this over and over again in disbelief. I have always respected
the Fallbrook
program ever since I ran in HS back in the 90's. On behalf of Vista
High School we extend our deepest condolences to his family, to
the athletes he has coached and to his colleagues. Coach, we know
that you must have been doing what you loved most up on the track
and we know you will continue to support this sport forevermore.
We truly appreciate everything you have done for XC and will cherish
the memories. To the Fallbrook athletes...We can't imagine how
difficult this is for you but stay strong and continue to believe
in everything he taught you.
